Dental Implants and Gum Reshaping

For health or cosmetic reasons, these two procedures done together or individually, can help give you that smile you can be proud of.

Dental Implants

Dental implants provide the basis for replacement teeth that look, feel and function just like natural teeth. If you’ve lost teeth, you can regain the ability to eat virtually anything and again smile with confidence, knowing that your teeth will look natural and have complete functionality.

Dental implants are small titanium posts precisely inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. The bone bonds with the titanium and creates a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Implants can support a range of restorations, such as a single crown, multi-unit bridges, and full arch dentures. Dental implants also help preserve facial bone structure, preventing the bone deterioration that can occur when teeth are missing.

Gum Reshaping

Gum reshaping (or ‘contouring’) is another procedure that can be used to ensure that your smile is something you can be proud of. This procedure makes sure that your gums are properly ‘scalloped’ along your teeth and have a pleasing/proper proportion of gum to tooth. Gum reshaping can also improve the health of your mouth, as properly shaped gums are easier to clean than uneven gums.

If you are considering dental implants or gum reshaping, we encourage you to talk with Dr. Gordon. He will review your health history and treatment goals, and comprehensively check the health of your gums and jawbone to determine if these procedures are right for you.
